Reasoning for a personal website
If one researches the web, there is no shortage of info online about setting up your own web pages, self-hosting, or anything among those lines. Here, I am not aiming to add to that literature. After all, I am just an enthusiast that can make no claims to have answers on the subject. I can only argue from my own point of view and experience.
My relationship with social media is convoluted, to say the least. I have deleted and recreated my accounts more times than I can remember at this point. As of right now, I still have an Instagram account, but try to keep my use of it sparse. I can't say I haven't made good use of that page in the past. There are numerous educational accounts in those platforms, and I have engaged with a good number of those. The problem, for me, is filtering through the noise of all the things I don't wanna see to get to the good stuff. It is draining.
I am just as guilty of doom scroling as the next person. And I particullarly don't have a fully-fledged solution for it so far, but truth be told, I have been enjoying the slower paced internet. Be it blogs, RSS feeds, heck! Even email. In a performative society like ours, I just enjoy reading a post from a random, unindentified fella on the internet, about some random thought that has no obligation of becoming viral. This website is my take on that. It is a little corner of mine outside the algorithmic-driven web, where I can put some stuff on a (digital) page, wihthout any pressure to be read.
I am not sure, being a musician, how this will play out. Social media allows for a fast-paced engagement to take place. And in my field, I have been told, time and time again, that this is THE WAY things should work. I don't know if I completely subscribe to that. And I certainly don't feel comfortable doing so. Why is it important to tell a number of 'followers' the latest update in my life? And lets be honest, who is actually following the stuff that you post, anyways? It is up to the algorithm to decide, isn't it?
I wrote this website in HTML and CSS only. And since I am no web developer, things might break eventually. Which is fine. It is human after all. If you see something wrong, feel free to reach out to me through my contact page.
Thank you for stopping by. And I hope you come back. I will do my best to keep this little corner of the internet up-to-date.
